Dragon Con Art Show: Access DENIED

Thu Jun 11, 2009, 1:28 PM
I was part of the Dragon Con art show for a couple years a while back. Back when Pat was running things and I was helping out. It was casual then, smaller, but still awesome. That man really changed things for the awesome.

I recently had the time and money to send in for Dragon Con art show again. But they required new works only. Well, I had a few pieces, made a few others, but still good stuff as far as my works goes (SunDragon, Second Chance, for example).

It was stated I did not meet their qualifications this year.

Apparently, there's quite a few folks of good standing as artists that have been turned down. I smell pomp AND circumstance if they go for a round 3 jury. I know that the work had been really good, but my works pretty par for the course for the non-main stream artists (see also people who are not full on professionals). Maybe its who you know, eh?

Sure, I'm sore, but its probably because, despite taking a grad class and working full time, I still worked my butt off to get the work done and sent in by their standards, but still denied despite their first come per jury. My work doesn't suck, especially my show pieces (Which are not eligible). Maybe I should just cheat and show old work? Not sure what a part time artist needs to do.

Maybe I should look into mailing art work to small cons? Just, it costs so much and the return not sure would be worth it.

We'll see.
